Baklava with Honey & Nuts

Baklava is one of the most beloved traditional desserts of the Mediterranean, known for its crisp layers of phyllo dough, sweet nut filling, and aromatic honey syrup. This recipe offers a simple and delicious version, perfect for any occasion.
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and butter a baking dish approximately 33x23 cm.
Mix the chopped walnuts with the sugar, cinnamon, and clove (if using).
Layer 8 sheets of phyllo in the pan, brushing each one with melted butter.
Sprinkle a portion of the nut mixture. Repeat the process, alternating 2 buttered phyllo sheets with the nut mixture, until all ingredients are used. Finish with 6–8 phyllo sheets, brushing each with butter.
Score the baklava into diamonds or squares using a sharp knife.
Bake for 50–60 minutes, until golden and crisp.
Prepare the syrup: In a saucepan, boil the honey, sugar, water, and lemon juice for 10 minutes.
Pour the hot syrup over the hot baklava and allow it to soak in and cool completely before serving.
Tips
Use pure Greek honey for a rich flavor and aroma.
You can add lemon or orange zest to the syrup for extra fragrance.

- 500 g phyllo dough
- 300 g walnuts, finely chopped

- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
